Metropolitan Building
Metropolitan Building, Queens
The Metropolitan building is a four-story brick building, constructed in 1910 for the Metropolitan Switch Company. The building housed the production of electrical equipment such as switchboards, panels, and switches at the turn of the century. The property is eligible to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The current property owner intends to restore the building to house a new commercial use which will bring traffic and revenue to an underutilized industrial area in Long Island City. The restoration of the Metropolitan Building will also contribute to a larger pocket of conversions being undertaken in the neighborhood. KTA’s scope of work consisted of the assessment of existing conditions and historically sensitive design of the repair and adaptive reuse of the building.
